Brewer to Address Waterfront Plans, Folk Fest at Meeting BREWER — Reports on the National Folk Festival and Penobscot Landing marketing efforts are among the items on the agenda for the City Council’s monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at City Hall. Representatives from the Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau and the city of Bangor have been invited to tonight’s meeting to present a status report on the festival, scheduled for Aug. 23-25 in Bangor, according to Brewer Economic Development Director Drew Sachs. Organizers say the three-day event will draw thousands of people to Bangor’s waterfront and downtown areas. Sachs also said Richard Stoltz of MBIA Bartram & Cochran of Hartford, Conn., and Michael Lawry of The Parrish Group of Philadelphia will present an update on efforts to boost investments in Brewer’s waterfront redevelopment zone. MBIA, which led the consortium of consultants hired to help create a master plan for redeveloping the city’s waterfront, was hired last year to take the plan into the marketing and implementation phase, Sachs said. He said Stoltz has been concentrating on attracting new or expanding businesses to the area, while Lawry’s main focus has been on developing public infrastructure. Plans for Penobscot Landing call for such attractions as an entertainment district and public market, facilities for boaters, an outdoor amphitheater and recreational trails, among other things.
